Tips to Fix Google Home Not Responding to Voice Message

If Google Home is not answering your question or not responding when you say "OK Google," then you need to check a few basic things first:

#1. Check that your Google Nest and Home speaker or display is turned on, and it is properly plugged into a socket.

#2. Check if, by mistake, a microphone is not muted. To check it from your Google home, you need to touch the microphone mute button located on the back of Google Home; your Google Assistant will let you know if it is muted or not.

If you have Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) or Google Home Mini (1st gen), then toggle the mic switch from the side of your device; your Assistant will respond and tell you if a microphone is muted.

If you are using Google Nest displays, access a switch on the back of your display to turn off the microphone; your Assistant will tell you if it is muted.

The top LED dots on your Google Home or Nest will start spinning or blinking when you speak “OK Google” or "Hey Google".

If Google Assistant answers another question, then try once asking the question you want to in a different manner.

Even after following all the above basic things, if still your Google Home or Mini fails to respond to your voice commands, then try below-mentioned solutions.

How to Fix Google Home Not Answering to Your Questions

Reboot Google Home

Whenever you find any issue with Google Home, the first solution that comes in anyone's mind is to restart the device. Yes, it a straightforward and easy solution to fix some wired issues you are facing in your Google Home or Mini.

Check if Google Assistant recognizes Hot word

If a LED dot ring on the top of your device spins or blinks when you say “OK Google” or "Hey Google", then it means that your wake word is heard but if it doesn't then it means that Google Home is not listening to your commands.

Check that Google Assistant has understood your Question or Not.

Ask the same question again by saying, "OK Google, repeat the question" and ensure that your Assistant heard you correctly.

If still Google Home is not answering your command, then try speaking it slower or try asking another question.

Check Network Connections

I have seen many users complaining about network issues on their Google Home speakers. If it is so with you also then your Google Home may have lost WiFi connection and due to which it is unable to respond.

Check Home and Work Locations

If you are asking your Google Assistant speaker about weather and traffic updates, then you need to understand that the device needs to access your location. So if you have brought your Google home device to your office, then you have to change the location, and again when you take it home, you have to change your location.

And sometimes, this can create a problem for Google home to identify your current location. So you have to add, change and remove home and work locations.

Factory Reset your Google Home

If nothing works for you, then I would request you to submit a feedback report from the Google Home app.
